Mental Health and Wellbeing Resources for Coaching Supervision

Updated: Aug 14, 2025

In recent years, mental health and wellbeing topics have been showing up more often in both coaching and supervision conversations. As supervisors, attending to these themes appropriately is a vital part of our role—supporting the wellbeing of the coach, the coach’s clients, and our own wellbeing as supervisors.

Coaching supervision offers a unique opportunity to create a safe, reflective space that fosters emotional resilience, supports ethical and professional decision-making, and helps practitioners recognise when additional or alternative interventions may be necessary. This restorative aspect of supervision not only sustains the effectiveness of coaches but also safeguards the wellbeing of all involved.

To support supervisors in this important area, EMCC USA has curated a selection of high-quality resources focusing on the restorative function of supervision. These include:

  • Books offering practical strategies for self-care, reflection, and emotional resilience.

  • Guidance documents from EMCC Global that highlight good practice in integrating mental health awareness into coaching, mentoring, and supervision.

  • Online learning opportunities, such as free awareness training and webinars on navigating challenging wellbeing conversations.

  • Podcasts exploring supervision, reflective practice, self-care, and working safely with sensitive topics.

  • Research articles on the role of supervision in sustaining professional and personal wellbeing.

  • Blogs and handouts with practical techniques for reflection, boundaries, and maintaining resourcefulness.

  • External websites signposting urgent and ongoing mental health support.

These resources are not diagnostic tools, but they can deepen understanding, strengthen professional practice, and help supervisors feel confident in responding appropriately when wellbeing concerns arise. If you are uncertain about how to approach a specific issue, bringing it to your own supervision is a good first step.

Mental health in coaching supervision is still an emerging field. If you are aware of additional resources that could strengthen our collective knowledge, we welcome you to share them with us at: info@emccusa.org
